Withdraw Purvanchal University protest: Govt
The Ministry of Education today urged all concerned to withdraw the ongoing protests at Purvanchal University.
Saying that talks are on to resolve problems at the university, Surya Prasad Gautam, officiating Secretary at the Ministry, said students will suffer huge losses if the administrative activities of university like admission, entrance examinations and annual examinations remain halted for long. Local leaders of various political parties, students and professors have padlocked the Biratnagar-based university for the past few months.
They have been demanding resignation of five top officials — Vice Chancellor Maheshwor Man Shrestha, Registrar Niroj Panday, Acting Registrar Shambhu Koirala and Deans Shubha Narayan Pathak and Shyam Katuwal. Sixteen parties have been demanding resignation of all officials in the five-member executive council, while professors have been demanding resignation of all those who were appointed in various posts by university officials by misusing their authority.
