ECAN fair sees surge in visitors
Kathmandu: The second day of the four-day education fair organised by Educational Consultancy Association of Nepal (ECAN) and presented by The Kathmandu Post saw almost four times more participants on Friday compared to the first day’s participation.
Over 18,000 people, mostly +2 graduates, interacted with representatives of the national and international education institutes, according to ECAN Acting Chairman Dipak Gurung. Some 5000 persons had visited the fair on Thursday despite a transport strike.
“As the number of Nepali students aspiring to go abroad is increasing, educational consultancies must be more responsible and meticulous in terms of dealing with the students,” said Sunita Upadhyay, a +2 graduate attending the fair.
The Kathmandu Post has offered out 25 percent discount to +2 graduates, who produce their ID cards in the fair, in its one-year subscription. The facilities of on-the-spot admission and scholarship opportunities are also offered at the fair.
Dipak Maharjan, the only medal winning boxing player in the recent Asian Games, and Sagar Thapa, the captain of the national football team, were also present in the fair. The organisers said that the chiefs of the education department of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the UCPN (Maoist) will visit the fair on Saturday.
The fifth ECAN fair disseminates information on more than 100 academic programmes in the US, the UK, Australia, Germany, India, Ireland, Switzerland, the Philippines and China, according to the organiser.
Of the 125 colleges, 25 Indian, six Australian, two Japanese, and two British colleges are taking part in the fair. The event expects to attract 120,000 visitors.
