KUPA warns it will seek KU officials' resignation
Kathmandu University Professors’ Association (KUPA) today warned the university administration it would demand the resignation of university officials in the next phase of its protest if the administration tried to suppress their peaceful protest programme.
Bibhuti Ranjan Jha, president, KUPA, said, “Rather than addressing our four-point demand, the university administration tried to suppress our peaceful protest programme. If this situation continues, we will have to ask for the resignation of university officials in the third phase of our protest programme.”
He stated that they were staging protest on the premises of the university by hoisting black flags, banners and wearing black bands in a peaceful way without halting any academic or administrative activities in the university, but the officials threw the flags and banners out of the university premises last Friday compelling us to rethink our protest programme.
“Removing the flags and banners from the campus premises was a kind of autocracy and curtailing our freedom to protest against the ill practices in university. It was a condemnable act,” he said.
Kathmandu University Professors’ Association has been demanding termination of the appointment of Dean in Science since he was a retired official from another university, initiation of the process of promotion and permanency of all who were victimised unlawfully, salary hike on scientific basis with eradication of all discrimination and institutionalisation of KUPA, KU Staff Association and Student Welfare Council.
