NPABSAN seeks deferral of SLC examinations
National Private and Boarding Schools’ Association of Nepal today urged the education minister to postpone the upcoming School Leaving Certificate examinations.
After the meeting with Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel, NPABSAN President Karna Bahadur Shahi said, “Since students have not been able to complete their course due to April 25 earthquake and the ongoing agitation in Tarai/Madhes, we requested the education minister to reschedule the SLC exams.”
Usually, the Office of the Controller of the Examination conducts SLC examinations in first week of Chaitra (third week of March). But NPABSAN has requested that the exams be rescheduled for the last week of Chaitra (second week of April).
It has also said that an arrangement can be made to publish the results within two months to adjust with the academic calendar.
Nepal government has also decided to implement letter grading evaluation system in SLC examinations from this year. The letter grading evaluation system was introduced by OCE since last year.
“Students and teachers are not aware of the letter grading evaluation system, so we need to conduct practice test before the actual examinations as it is new to students and teachers.”
In response, Minister Pokharel assured that the SLC examinations would be postponed in view of the present special circumstances.
“The decision to implement letter grading evaluation system was the decision of the previous government. Thus, I will implement the decision made earlier,” he said.
