Rupandehi schools reviving past glory
Rupandehi: A dozen of government schools in the district, which implemented new strategies to improve the quality of education, have been able to revive their past glory and compete with private schools.
These schools, including Nabin Audhyogik Secondary School , Kanti Higher Secondary School , Shanti Namuna Secondary School and Kalika Higher Secondary School , have been running English-medium classes up to the secondary level and introduced school uniforms, monthly tests of students and feedback mechanism for students as well their guardians.
Besides these, these schools have also banned teachers from avoiding classes to participate in programmes of various organisations.
After implementing the reform initiatives, the number of students scoring good marks in the SLC is on the rise and students’ enrolment in the schools is also increasing. Last year, percentage of students who passed the SLC examinations from the government schools was higher than those from the private schools in the district.
Prem Bahadur Basnet, head teacher of Nabin Audhyogik Secondary School , said such initiatives have helped improve quality of education in government schools and attracted students there.
Ghanashyam Pathak, headmaster of Kalika Higher Secondary School , said the move was initiated to end parents’ indifference towards government schools. Thaneshwor Gyawali, under secretary at the District Education Office, said each government school which implemented the new strategies attracted around 250 students from private schools during this academic year alone.
