25,000 PU students are attending time-bound home examinations
Oct. 2: At a time when millions of students across the country are in dilemma about their examinations as the authorised boards of examinations remain undecided on examinations, about 25,000 students of Purbanchal University (PU) are appearing in time-bound home exam from Tuesday.
As per the decision of PU , odd semester students of engineering, medical, science and technology, management and some students of humanities of Bachelor and Master programmes are attending examinations from their own homes as per the schedule published by the university last month. The university decided to conduct examinations in such a way after the examinations were delayed for six months due to COVID-19 fear.
Prof. Dr. Surya Prasad Sangraula, examination controller of the PU, said the three days' examinations of PU have been successfully completed without any technical hitch. According to Sangraula, despite some minor problems, the university did not face any problem to conduct home examination.
In the time-bound home exams, the question papers were sent to the respective colleges by email half an hour before the examination was to begin. The colleges then sent the question papers to the examinees' email 15 minutes before the scheduled time of the examination.
After the examinees write the answers within given time limit, they send the picture or scanned copy of the answer sheet. An extra half hour has been allocated to send the answer sheets, said Dr. Sangraula.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sangraula said that the colleges sent the answer sheets by email and the university would print them and send them to the subject teachers for checking as per the procedure of such examinations.‘Time Bound Home Exam’ introduced by Purbanchal University is being practiced for the first time in the country.
Dr. Sangraula said that the examination system was introduced to bring in use technology as per the time so that the academic session and time of the students would not go to waste. It will take two months to complete the ongoing scheduled examinations. And, only after the completion of the scheduled examinations, the university will decide about remaining semester system, annual and repeat examinations. The university has 60,000 students across the country.
Besides PU, Far Western University has also decided to conduct examinations without physical presence of examinees. But, Tribhuvan University has not yet decided about examinations of thousands of students who are waiting for tests for long. Tribhuvan University's administration claimed that they could not decide about examinations because they might face trouble in the management of the large number of students. TU has more than 400,000 students.
But it also stated that it would conduct the examinations in a similar way after the festivals if the situation remained the same.
