Conditional support to TU master semesters
Thirteen student unions have decided to extend their conditional support to Tribhuvan University in implementing semester system at the Master’s level.
A meeting of the unions held in the Capital on Thursday decided to allow the university to start semester system if it fulfils their 12-point demands. The unions have demanded 20 percent full scholarships, infrastructure and a time-bound framework to extend the system to other colleges as well.
Other demands are increasing scholarships by 10 percent every year and implementing agreements reached while phasing out the Proficiency Certificate Level three years ago.
Starting this year, the TU is replacing its annual academic system with semester system at the master’s level at its central departments.
“We are ready to extend support in initiating the semester system from February 14 if the TU commits in writing to address the demands,” the unions stated.
The unions have formed a committee for dialogue with the TU authority regarding their demands.
