DEOs to decide on closing schools
Different stakeholders on Tuesday decided to allow respective districts to decide on whether to shut down schools in the run-up to the May 27 deadline to promulgate the constitution.
Saying that frequent shutdowns across the country have hampered classes in private boarding schools, school operators had been trying to shut down all private schools for 15 days. They had proposed preponing the summer vacation and shutting down the schools now. According to Suparbhat Bhandari, the President of Nepal Guardian Association, who was present in a meeting of the stakeholders at the Ministry of Education (MoE), District Education Offices will decide for themselves on the matter by taking into account the situation in their respective districts.
Representatives of private schools, teachers’ associations, the Department of Education and guardians’ associations were present in the meeting.
