MoE yet to act on school fee fiat
The Ministry of Education(MoE) is yet to take measures to monitor fees being charged by private schools at the beginning of the new academic year, despite directives from the Office of the Prime Minster to do so.
This comes at a time when parents of school goers have been accusing private schools of charging exorbitant amounts in the name of annual fees (admission fees) and taking a cut from text-book sales.
The Prime Minister’s Office on Friday directed line agencies, including the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Home Affairs to keep a close eye the unscrupulous practices in schools.
Lalitpur District Education Officer Manakaji Shrestha said his office has not received any new directives from the government.
Meanwhile, Bhaktapur district authorities inspected schools last week. However, no reports of exorbitant fees were filed.
