QAA certificate to two campuses
Quality Assurance & Accreditation Committee of University Grants Commission (UGC) Nepal today handed over Quality Assurance & Accreditation (QAA) certificate to two campuses affiliated to Tribhuvan University. The two campuses getting QAA certificate are Makawanpur Multiple Campus, Hetauda and Kailali Multiple Campus, Dhangadi.
Four other TU affiliated campuses — Balkumari Multiple Campus, Chitwan, Damak Multiple Campus, Damak, Siddhanath Multiple Campus, Kanchanpur and Lumbini Banijya College, Butwal — had received the QAA certificate in the previous years.
Speaking at the ‘Institutional Accreditation Award Ceremony and Experience Sharing of the Accredited Institution’ organised by Second Higher Education Project in UGC, Dr Kamal Krishna Joshi, former chairperson of UGC and a Peer Review Team (PRT) coordinator of Makawanpur Multiple Campus said that QAA should be made extensive.
“If campuses are likely to perform well, they should to be given chance and accredited but if they fail to impart quality education despite attempts, they may as well be discredited,” Joshi said. Prof Dr Madhav Sharma, former Vice Chancellor of TU and a PRT coordinator for Kailali Multiple Campus said the campuses should build trust among students regarding the quality of education and make them competent to meet the challenges.
He said, “ If the campuses maintained their quality for five years after receiving the QAA certificate, they would get the status of deemed university in future.”
