SLC 2013 begins today
A total of 5,47,165 students will appear in this year´s School Leaving Certificate exams, starting Thursday. Of the total students, 4,30,097 are regular and 1,17,068 exempted, according to the Office of the Controller of Examination (OCE).
The OCE has set up 1,786 exam centers across the country, which will be supervised by the same number of superintendents and 2,655 assistant superintendents. Similarly, 21,890 invigilators, 7,297 peons and 19,860 security personnel are being mobilized for conducting the exams successfully.
According to the District Education Officers (DEO) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, 139 exam centers have been set up in the Kathmandu Valley for 49948 students.
Kathmandu has the highest number of exam centers at 86, where 34,104 students, including 1474 exempted, are appearing, said Kathmandu DEO Baikuntha Aryal.
Lalitpur DEO Manakaji Shakya said 31 exam centers have been set up in the district, where 9,800 SLC candidates will appear, whereas Bhaktapur has 22 centers for 6044 students.
The Metropolitan Police Commissioners´ Office has deployed 2,052 security personnel in the exam centers across the Valley. Total 1275 police have been deployed in Kathmandu, 435 in Lalitpur and 342 in Bhaktapur exam centers, informed the Metropolitan Police Range Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dhiraj Pratap Singh.
The OCE has set up one exam center each in Manang and Mustang districts. Issuing a press statement, the Private and Boarding School Association of Nepal (PABSON) has also urged political parties, civil society and guardians to maintain peace and harmony during the exams.
As per the SLC regulation directive, as many as 344 students face disqualification this year following their dual registration at two separate schools. The OCE had fixed the deadline for correction until Wednesday.
Similarly, the students who failed to register 70 percent attendance in the school would be disqualified from the exam as per the recommendation of the DEO.
Meanwhile, the temporary teachers have decided to boycott the SLC exam across the country. Exam Controller Khaga Raj Baral said that the temporary teachers´ protest would not affect the exams.
