Sports science curriculum ready for higher secondary students
Bhaktapur: The Higher Secondary Education Board has prepared the curriculum of sports science for higher secondary level students.
Ram Chandra Panday, Chief, Curriculum Division at HSEB said, “We are all set to introduce the curriculum for higher secondary level students from the next academic session (2013). Sports science will be an optional subject under humanities and management faculty. The students of science faculty can also study this subject but its marks will not be added in their mark-sheets.”
HSEB has decided to introduce the subject at the special request of National Sports Council.
NSC is trying to establish a sports university in Nepal. Introduction of sports science in higher secondary level will help assess whether students like the subject and accordingly help NSC decide whether it will be appropriate to set up a university.
Sports science will carry 200 marks — 100 marks each for theory and practical classes. The subject will be taught for 150 credit hours in Grade XI and XII.
Under the course, the students will study sports management, economic aspect of sports, sports tourism, sports and media, sports policy of various countries, sports law and athletics, karate, judo and swimming to name a few.
Besides, HSEB is also planning to prepare a curriculum for the Chinese language.
